    A SMART DATA APPROACH TO ANALYZE VEHICLE FLOWS

    Abstract. In the logic of Smart Cities it is of fundamental importance to analyze the traffic situation through dedicated sensors and networks. According to this approach and through the potential of smart data is based this study. Improve prediction of traffic patterns by analyzing and counting vehicles in a virtualized scene in real time. In the past, the technique of hardware inductive coils was used that were dropped in the asphalt to exploit the principle of magnetic induction in order to verify the transit of vehicles. This technique is not able to classify vehicles or estimate their speed, unless using multiple inductive coils. The proposed system provides for the virtualization of an area of interest which requires a selection and mapping of the areas where the control areas are to be included. The "image detection" techniques allow us to classify the vehicles in transit. With the techniques of "machine learning" can to able to verify the flow, count the vehicles present in the scene and classify them by vehicle type in real time. The vehicle counting and classification data available in the cloud platform allow to model and update the main nodes of the network in order to improve the prediction and estimates of the best routes of the road network according to the degree of saturation of the flows and the length of the line of the graph. The model can also indicate additional information of an environmental nature in an ITS system present in the cloud

    Pauli Tomography: complete characterization of a single qubit device

    The marriage of Quantum Physics and Information Technology, originally motivated by the need for miniaturization, has recently opened the way to the realization of radically new information-processing devices, with the possibility of guaranteed secure cryptographic communications, and tremendous speedups of some complex computational tasks. Among the many problems posed by the new information technology there is the need of characterizing the new quantum devices, making a complete identification and characterization of their functioning. As we will see, quantum mechanics provides us with a powerful tool to achieve the task easily and efficiently: this tools is the so called quantum entanglement, the basis of the quantum parallelism of the future computers. We present here the first full experimental quantum characterization of a single-qubit device. The new method, we may refer to as ''quantum radiography'', uses a Pauli Quantum Tomography at the output of the device, and needs only a single entangled state at the input, which works on the test channel as all possible input states in quantum parallel. The method can be easily extended to any n-qubits device

    Comparison between a direct-flow SPR immunosensor for ampicillin and a competitive conventional amperometric device: analytical features and possible applications to real samples

    In this research, we developed a direct-flow surface plasmon resonance (SPR) immunosensor for ampicillin to perform direct, simple, and fast measurements of this important antibiotic. In order to better evaluate the performance, it was compared with a conventional amperometric immunosensor, working with a competitive format with the aim of finding out experimental real advantages and disadvantages of two respective methods. Results showed that certain analytical features of the new SPR immunodevice, such as the lower limit of detection (LOD) value and the width of the linear range, are poorer than those of a conventional amperometric immunosensor, which adversely affects the application to samples such as natural waters. On the other hand, the SPR immunosensor was more selective to ampicillin, and measurements were more easily and quickly attained compared to those performed with the conventional competitive immunosensor

    Exploiting quantum parallelism of entanglement for a complete experimental quantum characterization of a single qubit device

    We present the first full experimental quantum tomographic characterization of a single-qubit device achieved with a single entangled input state. The entangled input state plays the role of all possible input states in quantum parallel on the tested device.     Scientific note: varroa mite eradication, the strange case of Gorgona Island

    Varroa mites are vectors for several bee viruses contributing also to their diffusion worldwide (Martin 2001; Di Prisco et al. 2011; Cersini et al. 2013). The tripartite relationship among bees, mites, and viruses is thought to be responsible for the loss of a large amount of colonies (Highfield et al. 2009; Berthoud et al. 2010; Francis et al. 2013). Before the arrival of Varroa destructor , virus prevalence was lower (Martin et al. 2012). The mites have contributed to spread the viruses which could be correlated to the high number of mite-infested honey bee colony losses (Berthoud et al. 2010; Francis et al. 2013). Since the varroa mite arrival, control of varroosis has become necessary (Moritz et al. 2010). Such control is focused on the coexistence between honeybees and mites. A trial to eradicate the mite from isolated areas has not been successful. Experiments carried out to eradicate varroa mite by use of several coordinated treatments in Jersey, an island in the English Channel, did not succeed, showing how difficult it is to eradicate this ecto-parasite from an infested area (Sampson and Martin 1999). The aim of this study is to report the disappearance of varroa mite from the island of Gorgona (43° 26′ N; 9° 54′ E) following several treatments in a single apiary kept in complete isolation. Furthermore, after the varroa disappearance, the honeybee viral load has been analyzed. Gorgona Island has been chosen because it provides suitable conditions to guarantee continuous monitoring and isolation to avoid new reintroduction of bee pathogens and pests

    Abundances for metal-poor stars with accurate parallaxes I. Basic data

    We present element-to-element abundance ratios measured from high dispersion spectra for 150 field subdwarfs and early subgiants with accurate Hipparcos parallaxes (errors <20%). For 50 stars new spectra were obtained with the UVES on Kueyen (VLT UT2), the McDonald 2.7m telescope, and SARG at TNG. Additionally, literature equivalent widths were taken from the works by Nissen & Schuster, Fulbright, and Prochaska et al. to complement our data. The whole sample includes both thick disk and halo stars (and a few thin disk stars); most stars have metallicities in the range -2<[Fe/H]<-0.6. We found our data, that of Nissen & Schuster, and that of Prochaska to be of comparable quality; results from Fulbright scatter a bit more, but they are still of very good quality and are extremely useful due to the large size of his sample. The results of the present analysis will be used in forthcoming papers to discuss the chemical properties of the dissipational collapse and accretion components of our Galaxy.Comment: 43 pages, 8 encapsulated figures, 13 tables.     A flow SPR immunosensor based on a sandwich direct method

    In this study, we report the development of an SPR (Surface Plasmon Resonance) immunosensor for the detection of ampicillin, operating under flow conditions. SPR sensors based on both direct (with the immobilization of the antibody) and competitive (with the immobilization of the antigen) methods did not allow the detection of ampicillin. Therefore, a sandwich-based sensor was developed which showed a good linear response towards ampicillin between 10-3 and 10-1 M, a measurement time of ≤20 min and a high selectivity both towardsβ-lactam antibiotics and antibiotics of different classes. © 2016 by the author

    Approximate Query Answering Based on Topological Neighborhood and Semantic Similarity in OpenStreetMap

    In this paper we focus on a pictorial query language, referred to as Geographical Pictorial Query Language (GeoPQL), and we revise its formal semantics by considering the polygon-polyline, polyline-polyline, and polygon-polygon topological relationships. This work proposes the Approximate Answering Engine (AAE) within a Distributed System, referred to as GeoPQLJSON (GeoPQLJ). The AAE provides approximate answers to query with empty results by following two directions: the Operator Conceptual Neighborhood (OCN) graph, and the OpenStreetMap (OSM) attribute hierarchy, giving maximum flexibility to the user choices. According to the former, the geo-operators of the queries can be replaced with the ones labeling the adjacent nodes of the OCN graph. By following the latter, the system evaluates the OSM attribute semantic similarity according to the information content approach, and proposes possible attribute replacements to the user. Note that the presence of OSM attributes allows the quick and direct access to large amount of geographical data, without requiring in our case the use of the topological elements. The functionalities of the Distributed GeoPQLJ System are illustrated by several query examples
